Did you get a new puppy or kitten? Or perhaps, you've had pets for a long time. You may save money on pet boarding, and be certain you take advantage of every day of your furry friend's company by bringing them along on your trips.
Fortunately, pet-friendly hotels do exist. In addition to finding hotels without pet fees or size restrictions, we also looked through the fine print, fees, and rules of all the major hotel brands to locate accommodations that offered nice extras like pet room service, personalized dog treats, and more.
Kimpton
You can trace the company's history of pet-friendliness back to 1981. At this time, founder Bill Kimpton insisted on keeping his dog Chianti by his side while at work. Today, Kimpton hostels welcome Guests and their pets with open arms.
There is no extra charge for having a pet; the only size limitation is that it needs to fit through the entrance (sorry, this means no pet elephants). Hotels that welcome pets of any kind are pretty uncommon. There are no limitations on permitted pets, so that the entire pet family can come along.
In addition, Kimpton offers pet-friendly extras like:
- plush pet-bed loaners,
- bowls,
- mats,
- pet waste bags,
- and door hangers.
Aloft
To attract pet owners, Aloft created the Animals R Fun (or ARF) program, which provides a free Aloft bed, basin, and food and toys for the pet.
Some Aloft hotels may charge an additional cost for guests traveling with dogs, unlike Kimpton, which does not impose such charges. The Aloft San Francisco Airport was among the most expensive hostels charging $75 per night in fees.
Furthermore, the size restrictions and the maximum number of dogs per room allowed by certain Aloft hotels vary widely.
Element
Hotels of the Element, besides a comfy bed, meals, water bowls, and trash bags, the Love that Dog program, also provide other valuable items for canine care. Similar to Aloft, some properties impose additional fees and weight restrictions.
Hyatt
While pets are typically permitted on Hyatt properties, owners should be prepared to pay a high price. The average pet fee at a Hyatt hotel is higher than at any other chain in this list.
Furthermore, Hyatt hotels are notoriously picky about the types and breeds of animals they allow. The rules are complicated because they differ from property to property. There may be a property that welcomes dogs but not cats. Whereas another might be fine with all cats but just certain dog breeds. You should call beforehand to find out if pets are allowed.
Loews
Although pets are not allowed at most Loews hotels without a pet fee, guests of select hotels can enjoy premier services like a room service menu made particularly for canines and felines. In addition to beds, bowls, food and water dishes, pets will also receive collars, harnesses, and litter boxes. Plus, Loews hotels usually have maps of nearby walking trails for pet owners. There is a requirement for vaccination documentation.
Conclusion
Finding a hotel that will allow your pet to stay with you can be challenging, and you may be forced to settle for less-than-ideal accommodations. However, these accommodations that welcome pets are a godsend for pet owners who would otherwise have to leave their furry buddy at home (or persuade a friend or relative to watch it) when they travel.
