Look, there’s just no argument about it—your pets are part of the family, right? Whether you have a dog, cat, bunny, or hamster (Hey, whatever animal makes you happy!) since they’re beloved family members, they should be included in all your human-oriented holiday fun. Here are some creative, clever, and cute ways to incorporate your pets in your family festivities—in a safe manner, of course!
Add them to your family pic. As a kid, I remember the hardest part of getting our whole family—which included two big dogs—together for a holiday group shot was getting “Cinny” and “Coco” to sit still. We did the best we could to get them to pose (ha!). Just keep in mind if you pose in front of a Christmas Tree, make sure the stand (if you have one) is very secure so your dogs don’t knock it over; or if you pose with an electric Menorah conceal the plug so no one trips over it and everything falls over and cracks. Experts recommend using LED lights in your holiday decorations.
Put them in ‘ugly’ sweaters. I find the “wear an ugly sweater for Christmas” trend hilarious. Beloved Shark Tank entrepreneurs Tipsy Elves, built a whole empire out of ugly sweaters for humans and dogs—your pooch needs to partake in some fashion faux paws! (See what we did there?) Talk about a photo opp you’ll never forget. You can even ask friends to dress their pets in ugly sweaters and upload them all to social media for extra laughs!
Bake your pets some holiday treats. As long as you’re cooking for human family members—why not whip up some treats your pet will also love? I found some great pet treat recipes here, such as Doogie Stew and Rice Meals. They’ll be so grateful to NOT have canned and bagged doggie food, even for one day. At least, we hope so—worth a shot testing to see if they’re into your cooking. There’s even pre-made Catnip Cake you can order online for your feline bestie.
Watch a pet movie. There are tons of movies starring pups and cats—find the best one that features your breed and watch it on Christmas Eve in honor of your fave pet. Have a Dalmatian? Go for 101 Dalmatians, obviously! Own a cocker spaniel? Lady and the Tramp it is! A Golden Retriever? Your clan will love Air Bud. Errr…may want to skip Old Yeller, though, if you’ve got a Lab…
Get them a new doggie bed. Dogs love a good, deep slumber—and a great nap—just as much as their human best friends. Why not give them the gift of a comfy new doggie bed for the holidays? They have basic ones that are budget friendly, or you can get fancy. I’ve some high-tech ones with raised plush sides for Lassie lean his head on, suede ones with foam inserts, and even machine washable plush loungers best for large dogs. This is such a practical and literally cozy gift to give your dog to show how much you love them. Add a doggie bed to your holiday e-cart today.
