The Siberian Husky, or Husky, had its name coined from Siberia – a vast region of North-East Asia in Russia. Although favoring the nimble and powerful anatomy of the wolf, this people-oriented pup was bred by the semi-nomadic Chukchi people as an endurance sled dog. First recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1930, the striking beauty made its debut in a big splash in 1925, after trekking over 674 miles in five and a half days to deliver life-saving diphtheria serum to a remote Nome community.

As should be expected for a breed developed for sledding during winter, the Husky is a working dog at heart commanding a balance of speed, power, and endurance. Their high metabolic rate reserves their high energy levels even after covering long distances without a meal to snack on. For this reason, they can be great jogging partners for fitness enthusiasts. Siberian Huskies are highly intelligent and enjoy the company of humans.

In addition to their welcoming and affectionate personalities, these adorable dogs have unusual facial expressions and impudent eyes. It’s no surprise that this dog breed has won the hearts of celebrities. Rita Ora, Miley Cyrus, Ben Stiller, Ashlan Gorse, and Russel Westbrook are just a few mentions who go a long way with their Husky pals.

Over the years, the Husky has become harder to train due to its independent and wanderlust nature. Therefore, their owners have to take over with consistent rules. If you’re looking for a calm furry friend or a partner who’ll shine on the obedience ring by pleasing and hanging on to your every word, the Husky isn’t a match.

Although they get along with other dogs, their predatory nature makes them a risk around other small animals including cats; you should be cautious with this breed. They’re mostly quiet as it’s rare for them to bark. However, they often enjoy howling, but not their neighbors, a husky howl can be heard 10 miles away. Finally, if you’re considering welcoming a Husky into your compound as a watchdog, let not their aggressive wolf-like appearance fool you. They’re inwardly soft and gentle to strangers as they don’t understand the concept of strangers. Despite not being an ideal watchdog, the huskies are attentive and curious about happenings around their area. Get one for vigorous exercise, and the Husky will be a joy!
